Code of Conduct
Austin Blues Party should be a comfortable and inviting space for everyone, regardless of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, disability, religious beliefs, physical appearance, age, or ability.
In the effort to maintain a fun and comfortable dance space, attendees are expected to follow these conduct guidelines:
Remember…
Policies Regarding Weapons:
Go Dance and Balance (our Friday through Sunday venues) have no weapons/firearms policies, and as such no one except as required by their job can possess one at these venues. Likewise, as with all other behavior, we will ask you to leave if you are making other attendees uncomfortable by carrying a weapon/firearm in any of our other venues.
Fragrance Policy:
Let’s help our chemically-sensitive friends by not wearing perfumes, colognes, or other heavily scented products, and DEFINITELY not applying any scented products of any kind while inside any of our venues. In extreme cases, you may be asked to leave if your products are causing a reaction, so please err on the side of using fragrance-free or lightly-scented products while attending ABP.
And really, just help everyone have a good time...
If an attendee exhibits behavior that unreasonably interferes with an individual’s ability to attend or enjoy the event by creating an intimidating, threatening, unsafe, hostile, or abusive environment, that is harassment and it will be taken seriously. Consequences will be determined by the discretion of the Blues Association of Austin board, and can include immediate expulsion and exclusion from all BAA events. By virtue of attending our event, every participant in Austin Blues Party is held to the standards of this Code of Conduct.
If you feel uncomfortable or you would like to report harassment, please contact the BAA board through one of the options below. All issues will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

In the effort to maintain a fun and comfortable dance space, attendees are expected to follow these conduct guidelines:
- Obtain verbal consent when asking someone to dance.
- Obtain explicit consent before performing weight-sharing moves (dips, etc). No aerials!
- Please refrain from offering unsolicited dance advice, unless it would correct dangerous or uncomfortable movement.
- Be aware of your personal space, the space of your partner, and those around you.
- Respect the personal boundaries others have set.
Remember…
- Gender does not imply dance role, nor does it determine who asks who to dance.
- It’s okay to say no to a dance! You are not obligated to dance with anyone.
- If someone turns you down for a dance, it is not a rejection! Smile and seek another partner.
- Invite your partner into new connections such as close embrace, don’t force it.
- This dance presents with various levels of intimacy. Every partnership will be different and will need to be negotiated.
